What to expect

For the first time, Burnchurch House—one of the county’s most authentic Georgian homes—will open its doors to the public. As members of the Irish Historic Houses Association, we are pleased to join fellow stewards in sharing Ireland’s built and cultural heritage with visitors, even if just for a day.

This is an opportunity to see a carefully restored and beautifully furnished Georgian rectory as it was meant to be enjoyed: original timber floors, shutters, and fanlights, alongside interiors that speak to over two centuries of Irish family life. The house is full of character, from the murals by Michael Dillon to a quietly impressive collection of books, animal-themed curiosities, and original featuers.

The house sits in forty acres of grounds where mature woodland, wildflowers, and meadows are dotted across the property. You’ll encounter the household’s horses, the irrepressible baby donkey, and, keeping a dignified watch, the Irish wolfhound.
Tea and coffee will be served on the veranda, so you can take in the beautiful views in good company. If demand and weather allow, there may be cake and music to accompany your afternoon.

A modest entry fee may apply to cover refreshment or entertainment costs if they go ahead. Advance booking is encouraged, as this remains a private home.
We look forward to sharing the distinctive Georgian atmosphere of Burnchurch—welcoming you, for the first time, to see both the estate and its everyday life at close quarters.
